@Aly -- I definitely agree that the city needs to be more walkable and have better transportation. You'll find that the West Coast in general lacks in really good public transport.

I think finding your neighborhood in Seattle is very key. Unfortunately, that takes time and is not always what happens when you first move to a city. I hope that you find somewhere in Seattle that makes you happy.

i JUST MOVED FROM cHICAGO AND AM HAVING A HARD TIME WITH SEATTLE. tHE CITY DOESN'T HAVE THE UPKEEP, ARCHITECTURE, WALKABLE COMMUNITIES, LEVEL OF CULTURE, DEFINATELY NOT THE TRANSPORATION AND NO OPTIONS OF CABS; UNLESS YOU LIVE RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER FROM WORK YOU BASICALLY NEED TO OWN A CAR WHICH FOR A CITY CLAIMING GREEN IS KINDA OF NEGATIVE. aLSO THERE IS VERY LITTLE DIVERISTY HERE WHICH KIND OF WASHES OUT ITS VIBE. iM STILL WILLING TO GIVE IT MORE OF A CHANCE THOUGH. i THINK YOU EITHER DIG SEATTLE OR ITS COMPLETELY NOT FOR YOU. SEEMS IT WORKS FOR PEOPLE SEEKING A LITTLE MORE THAN A SUBURB BUT NOT ACTUALLY READ FOR A CITY.

Courtney -- I do think that one of the keys to making a place feel less like a 'burb is when a town has it's own feel. I get city envy, especially when some towns probably thought years ago that they were going to be bigger than Seattle. But when I've been in places like Bellevue, I feel like I'm in a place that is trying so hard to be Seattle, yet with none of the funky charm. And Bellevue is certainly large enough that it should have it's own strong identity. Linking is much appreciated. Thank you.

@Courtney -- I can definitely see how the rain reputation would hinder real estate sales, but I do think it's a falsity based on how much cloud cover. I think we tend to pay less attention at how much it's actually raining and when and more about when we can actually see the sun.

Oh, I don't work at Microsoft (though I can see how you could've read that from my phrasing). I actually commute to ExOfficio's corporate headquarters in Tukwila every day, which is "against" traffic. I still miss my much shorter commute from when I was living in West Seattle though.

@Nathan -- That's awesome that Seattle's the 3rd Greenest City. I do appreciate living somewhere that invest in sustainability and hopefully will stay beautiful for a long time.

Erica Minus the suburb statement (although I completely agree with you about most Southern suburbs), I think this is such a great list of pluses and minuses about Seattle!!! You should go check out downtown Edmonds sometime or Richmond Beach in Shoreline for some more interesting sprawl highlights. I am constantly making pros and cons lists for my relocation clients and also trying to explain why our notorious rain reputation is false, but that cloud cover! You got that right!

I love working in city the most - Green Lake,Greenwood, Ballard, Phiney Ridge, Fremont, Eastlake, Capitol Hill, Leschi, Madison Park, etc. - I love the Urban Villages in each neighborhood! Sounds like you need to get out of Magnolia - commuting form Ballard or Magnolia to Microsoft would be a bit much for me! Eastlake or South Lake Union would be my choice if all I had were a kitty:)

I think some rock bands got Seattle bad rep, but relatives to other cities in the country apparently there is something to be proud of, third greenest city in the US: http://www.sustainlane.com/us-city-rankings/cities/seattle
